Lately, we have been noticing a subtle hint of geology in designer spaces. Several design websites, catalogs and magazines have highlighted Agate or Quartz accessories as well as using these natural materials on a larger scale, think entire walls, countertops, floors, etc. Here are a few of our favorites:
Two of our favorite designers also featured natural elements on their websites:
We have even spotted bookends, coasters and framed geodes at our local HomeGoods. Unfortunately, they were not the right colors (or price range) for our homes so we’ve been patiently waiting on the perfect ones. But guess what? Our grandmother just happened to have a very large sculpture Quartz and a few smaller ones and gave them to daughter after a visit. She had no idea that these beauties were the latest design trend and they had been in her basement for a few years!
The large piece will reside in daughter’s guest room while the smaller pieces will be made in a DIY project with white or gold leaf shadow boxes (similar to the top picture). Natural elements are such an easy way to add character and texture to your home. Other natural elements that we use regularly: cork, petrified wood, barn wood, moss and natural stones.
