Country Life. Slow. Simple. Pure.
Every year, we visit our favorite farm in Jasper, GA – Yahoo Farm. Its a small, working pumpkin farm that specializes in heirloom pumpkins and overlooks the North Georgia mountains. Pumpkins range from Turks Turban to Fairytale to Jarrahdale (Daughter’s first pumpkin love) to One Too Many. The farm also offers an assortment of farm fun and activities: corn maze, hayrides, farm animals, a bakery and the most wonderful butterfly garden.
Once we made our selections, we went to work planting and decorating for Daughter’s front porch. (This is also a post illustrating how to work with what you have.) Although Daughter isn’t too fond of her purple front door and shutters, she works with the color scheme. Her front garden usually hosts a range of purple flowers and other complimentary colored plants. This winter, she plans to purchase a new door (one without glass!) and paint the shutters a dark Navy.
Daughter has two large urns that change seasonally and for Fall, we planted Dusty Miller, Kale and purple Mums. For the pumpkins, Daughter decided to go a little unconventional, she did not purchase a single bright orange pumpkin.
Burnt orange and yellows mums were also used.
The One Too Many pumpkin was the only ‘orange’ pumpkin that made its way into the garden.
Yes, we know. We should have created a beautiful Fall wreath for the front door but Daughter and her husband are huge football fans. What says Fall more than a Burlap Football Wreath? They also display their University of Georgia Burlap Flag with Uga.
Happy Fall Y’all!
