O’ Magnolia Tree, O’ Magnolia Tree

We hope you sang the post title!

On Sunday, we spent a few hours creating more Christmas crafts and lovely presents. It was a special time to visit with each other and our grandmother, listening to our favorite Christmas CD’s and spending quality time with one another. No rushing through malls or racing to the next event. It’s those special, quiet, calm moments that we’ll remember years from now.

Georgia’s backyard hosts a wonderfully large magnolia tree and so we had to create a truly Southern Christmas craft! We searched through our design magazines and Pinterest to get some ideas. Here are a few design ideas that we adore:

Gorgeous! After searching for inspiration, Georgia decided to step out of the ‘wreath’ box and instead create a Magnolia Tree.

This old tree form has been collecting dust in Georgia’s garage for a few years. Yep, its been used before but this style and design of foam is very difficult to find. Luckily, we were able to reuse it for the magnolia leaves but it probably won’t last another floral arrangement.

We (or rather, Georgia’s husband) removed several large branches from the live magnolia tree. We cleaned the leaves thoroughly and organized the different leaves by size: small, medium, large and extra large. This was the most time consuming part of the project. We estimated the tree needed about 100 leaves.

We inserted the extra large leaves near the base, overlapping each row. As we worked our way up to the top of the form, we gradually used smaller leaves.

At the top of tree, we ran out of foam but couldn’t leave it exposed. Georgia created a bow with beautiful red, velvet ribbon to finish the tree.

Georgia decided to place the gorgeous, natural magnolia tree on her entry table. The tree now sits on top of her new Christmas Script Table Square.

Oh Christmas tree, Oh Christmas tree!
Thy leaves are so unchanging
Oh Christmas tree, Oh Christmas tree,
Thy leaves are so unchanging

Not only green when summer’s here,
But also when it’s cold and drear.
Oh Christmas tree, Oh Christmas tree,
Thy leaves are so unchanging!

Oh Christmas tree, Oh Christmas tree,
Such pleasure do you bring me!
Oh Christmas tree, Oh Christmas tree,
Such pleasure do you bring me!
